I thought being away would make it better.
I thought it would keep my mind off you.
But I was wrong.

In an unfamiliar place,
an unfamiliar bed,
all I could think of was you.

Without my usual pillow and blanket,
everything was not usual.
I tossed and turned for a few hours.

The pillow was too thick,
the blanket was too thin.
And yet,
these were not even the main reason
why I was unable to sleep.

I couldn't sleep because I missed your voice.
I was too accustomed to hearing your voice before I slept.
I was so used to your voice that it became my lullaby.

And hell,
it's hard to sleep without your usual lullaby.
I can't.
even though I've tried.

My mind wondered here and there,
from what were you doing right now
to when were you coming home.
I thought about all sorts of stuffs,
but all were of you.

I texted you but you couldn't reply,
I couldn't possibly call.
I turned on the computer,
and my heart at first,
filled with hope,
crashed and burned when you were not online.

I felt helpless,
like a weakling,
it was only the first night.
But I have never been through this before.

I felt like dying.
I was sick
very very sick.
I didn't feel well at all.
I didn't want to live through another second of it.

I promised not to cry.
I smiled at the thought of you
upset at me for breaking my promises.

I guessed all that would do for now are my memories.
They had to do,
I had nothing else left with me.

It was a last option,
then again,
there was no options.

All the bits and pieces stored in my memory,
the way you eat,
your many many different faces.
From the upset face to the pleading face,
the way you squirm your face like a hamster or a rabbit.
And I laughed for once,
in the dark,
at your stupid faces and naughty games.
